ANIME EPISODES |
![]() |
The anime was first aired in 1979, six years after the initial manga serialization in Margaret Comics. Despite the long lapse between the manga ending and the anime production, which in itself is unusual in the anime world, the lavish artwork and dramatic screenplay soon captured the hearts of many young women and revived a second Berubara craze. The same phenomenon spread to East Asia and Europe, and the rest is history.
The anime version covers the full manga story in 40 episodes. Episode 41, a summary of episodes 1-40, is aired as a TV special. A 90-minute animated movie is also produced, receiving mixed reviews because of the change in lead seiyuu [4].
