Hi,
I'd first encountered this manga when I was a 5th grader --- I was immediately obssessed with it.
After 25 years, I still find these images absolutely enchanting. Thanks for your thorough work ---
and thanks for taking me down the memory lane...

You're welcome! I'm still very much obsessed with RoV, and somehow keep seeing images of Oscar in other series (mostly parodies). ^^
Thanks for visiting.

It's a pity that a series such as this one lingers in relative obscurity, but one day,
hopefully, maybe it'll get officially licensed in the U.S.
Until then, keep up the good work...

I hope so too, both the manga and anime. Perhaps some RoV-related books and Takarazuka shows would also be good.
Thanks for visiting.

Leslie,

Congratulations on finding the movie and episode 41! It's so hard to find Berubara stuff outside of Japan,
so I can understand how happy you must be.
I'm glad that you got a chance to see most of the anime.
I, too, would be sobbing if I found out I missed lots of stuff.
Don't worry, your questions were not a bother at all.
I'm actually happy that you asked them, because now I know a bit more about Peru.
Take care ~~

Dear friend:
You know that when I read your reply thanks for it by the way, well I go to the web site that you show me well,
I saw in the images gallery of one of this, that they count the episode number 26 when Oscar go to Normandia, you know to take a relax time
because she left her job in Versailles and then Andre tell her that he loves her and all about it, so making the respect calculations well,
I think that I didnīt miss anything, and I tell you why , may be its because the during of the episodes change by countries,
in my tapes this episodes during about 22 o 24 minutes and this episode is not 26 no no no, because thats the number of the last episode;
so in my tapes this episode its maybe the 13th or 14th, I donīt remember it very well but, I discover hey! I didnīt miss anything, mmmmmmmm,
do you understand me I hope that the answer is yes,now I can die in peace, JI JI ...
thank you very very much
take care
have a nice week!!!!!

Uh, okay, if you say so. I still think it's a bit odd that the version you saw ended with Andre telling Oscar that he loved her,
since the Japanese version showed a lot more story after this incident (e.g., the storming of Bastille, Antoinette in prison).
Anyway, I'm glad that the info was helpful.

Hi Kelly, yes, I'm back ... with loads of books, CDs, videos, etc. ^^ Let's see, what did I do there?
non-manga/anime related stuff: met up with family, lots of relatives, and friends ... ate and slept well, for a change ...
didn't go for the tourist type places, since I've seen most of them already ... was somewhat surprised at how much Taipei changed in just a few years
manga/anime stuff: read 100+ manga and dozens of manga/anime review books (including Tiffany's, of course!), watched anime and J-drama daily ...
Now I'm back to work (sigh~). Anyway, it was quite fun, and I think I've brought back enough manga stuff to keep me busy for a while.

Hello Soffy,
Your question came at an interesting time, because I just answered an e-mail with the exact same question a few days ago.
Perhaps we know the same people. ^_^
Anyway, there are 41 episodes in the Japanese version of the anime: #1-40 cover the full story,
whereas #41 is a summary of 1-40 (more like a collection of best scenes, with different voice actors).
Each of the 1-40 episodes is about half an hour with commercials. #41 is about 90 minutes long.
All were first aired on TV, but #41 was later shown in theatre too.
Does that sound similar to what you saw in Peru? If the Spanish version were uncut and used the same numbering for episodes,
then you're missing episodes 27-40. (I wouldn't worry too much about #41, since it doesn't introduce any new story)
If the Spanish version was edited into fewer episodes (which I doubt is true), then I don't know which ones you might be missing.
My best guess is that the TV program you saw showed the first 26 episodes only, and then stopped it because of low ratings, copyright,
or some other business concerns.
If you'd like to know what happened in the rest of the anime,
try looking at the summary and fansub scripts at this site:
http://www.interlog.com/~dgsimmns/RoV/RoV.html
I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to recommend places where you could rent/buy the Spanish tapes, since I don't know the stores in Peru.
I can, however, suggest places for the English edition, if you're interested.
And about the images, yes, I'd welcome submissions of fan art, as well as other fan-made stuff.
I would try making some myself, but the truth is, I'm not very good at drawing. *_*
Take care ~~~

Hi Amy! Long time! Hpoe you're doing well!
Concerning ep. 41, well, it's NOT 90 min.
What you're talking about is the theatre film...
Ep. #41 in fact is called "Versailles no bara to onna tachi" (RoV and women),
it is a kind of short *best of*, just talking about the female characters in RoV, and it only lasts approx. 25 min. (as all previous TV episodes).
It was first broadcasted on TV on Sept. 10th, 1980, one week after ep. #40 (Oscar's death ;_;)
The 90 min. film you're talking about was first released on video in 1987. It's jap. title is *Seimei aru kagiri aishite*.
It was shown in theatre in May 1990 (I had the great chance to watch it in Tokyo *_*)
and the voice actors are in fact different from the TV series, sigh.

You're welcome, Soffy. I'm glad that you find the info helpful. As for the images,
are you looking for any one in particular? e-cards are a good idea, too. I'm not sure how to make one,
but I'll look into it. Hope to see you again.

Hello Amy,
I just spent one hour browsing your site on my first day of getting back to work.
This site is amazing! I vaguely remember reading Rose of Versailles when I was young.
You've done a great job. I'll come back often to check it out. Now I have to get back to work!

Thanks, Angela. And a happy New Year to you!
I hope the surfing was helpful for getting over jet lag.
Will give this a try when I get back to work too. ^_^
(Reading and translating manga on the plane will help too, as I discovered.)
All the best for 2002!
