Japanese text (will open new window!)
[ July 14, 1789. Oscar leads her French Guard regiment to the Bastille prison. At her command, the soldiers begin firing canon balls at the fortress. Heavy fire is exchanged on both sides, and soon the revolutionaries appear to be gaining ground. Anxious, the Bastille soldiers redirect fire to Oscar. As Oscar slowly falls to the ground, Alain runs to cover her and is shot in the arm. Alain carries Oscar off the battlefield. ]
| Oscar: | {{ André ... My dear André ... You are no longer suffering, aren't you ... Oh ... You are no longer suffering ... If you were to suffer, I'll try to bear my suffering too. Surely I will. It didn't last long, did it ... Has death come this easily? Lend me your hands, André, André! I haven't become a coward ... Oh ... embrace me! }} |
| [ Rosalie sees a wounded Oscar and becomes frantic. ] < ... > | |
| Oscar: | Oh ... put me down ... Please ... put me down ... < ... > André ... is now waiting for me ... Put me down ... < ... > Let me go to the same place as André ... Because ... we ... have become husband and wife. < ... > |
| Don't cry, Rosalie. I'm now at ease ... As a small being I don't have any way to repay God for his love. Yet I have followed my heart truthfully. Not for a single moment do I regret the life I've led. As a human being this is enough for happiness. Love, hatred, tears ... Ah ... if I could relive this life from the start, I would still choose a life of the military ... I too would ... |

| Alain: | Commander! The white flag is raised over Bastille ... ! |
| Oscar: | Has it finally fallen? Oh ... my courageous French people! Liberté ... Égalité ... Fraternité ... These supreme ideals shall forever be the foundation of mankind. Vive ... la France! |
