Japanese text (will open new window!)
[ July 14, 1789. Oscar leads her French Guard regiment to the Bastille prison. At her command, the soldiers begin firing canon balls at the fortress. Heavy fire is exchanged on both sides, and soon the revolutionaries appear to be gaining ground. Anxious, the Bastille commander orders his soldiers to fire at Oscar. Oscar steals a glance at a flying pigeon and just then realizes she has been shot. ]
Oscar: {{ André! }}
[ Oscar falls slowly to the ground. At Bernard's urging, Alain and the French Guards carry her off the battlefield. ]
Oscar: Put me down, Alain.
Put me down. Please, somebody.
I'm very tired. Just for five minutes. I want to rest in peace.
[ Oscar is lowered to the ground. Rosalie wipes blood off her forehead. Oscar glances upward at a flying pigeon and suddenly realizes the quietness around her. ]
Oscar: Why, why can't I hear the firing of our cannon?
Fire! Keep firing!
Capture Bastille!
Fire, Alain! Fire!
What are you doing?
[ Alain leads the soldiers back to their posts. Soon the crowd starts charging across the drawbridge into Bastille. ]
Bernard: Can you hear it, Oscar?
The sound of our People charging into Bastille!
